First off,Thanks for joining the forum at Valueinvestingforum.net.As usual nice write up,one interesting point about the whole Amgen situation is the question marks sorrounding the whole situation. Not much details are known as how much Amgen expects to "lose". After reading tens of articles, I get the feeling that the FDA panel was confused on what to impose on Amgen. For example, this forbes article gives some detail on the confusion surrounding the meeting.
http://www.forbes.com/2007/05/11/amgen-fda-update-markets-equity-cx_er_0511markets19.html?partner=yahootix

-Alex

UPDATE:
Amgen is down $2 after hours to $54 on news that Medicare/Medicaid is going to limit payments for Aranesp. This should not be surprising given that the FDA is warning doctors and patients about overprescribing the drug. If off-label use is potentially harmful, the government should not pay for that treatment.

This stock is going to continue to be dicey in the short term. A lot of bad news is coming all at once. We still have to wait and see what kind of guidance cut AMGN management gives in late July and more FDA rulings re: Epogen will come in the fall. With few catalysts in the short term, this is a stock to scale into slowly and only if you are patient and long term oriented.
