Introducing the Peridot Blog Model Portfolio
filed in peridot services on Jul 29, 2008
One of the most frequent requests I get from readers is a way for them to access continually updated views on the stocks I have blogged about in past postings. Obviously my clients can see what I am doing and can always initiate discussion with me to get my views, but readers of my blog are restricted by the inherent limitations of blogging in general; the scope of my relatively brief posts, as well as an often uneven writing schedule.
To address this reader request, I am happy to introduce the Peridot Blog Model Portfolio, a new service available to readers beginning today. The purpose of this product is to offer you (for a small monthly fee) the chance to receive real-time updated views on stocks I have highlighted on this blog in the past.
The model portfolio uses a new software platform called Rainbox (still in beta, so I can pass along suggested improvements to the programmers), which allows access to updated research reports and can also help investors mimic the stock weightings of the model portfolio (which I will manage) with their own trading accounts, if they want.
Each time I positively highlight a new stock on the blog, it will be added to the model portfolio at a percentage weight of my choosing. Then, each time a quarterly earnings release comes out, some other material event occurs, or my opinion on the company changes, I will issue an update on that stock and an email notification will be sent out to subscribers.
I have been testing out the service privately with a select group throughout 2008, and as a result, all of this year’s stocks have been added and in many cases, new research and position changes have been posted. The service is now available to everyone. So far this year, the model is down less than 1%, versus a 15% decline for the S&P 500.
I hope this new product is a valuable tool for those who requested something like it. As always, feel free to contact me to suggest how to make the blog as valuable a resource as possible, or how to potentially improve this product. Also, the Peridot Select List product will be migrating over to this online automated model portfolio system as well.
